Bobby Jones is a career Naval Officer in the United States Navy. With over 25 years of of military service he has witnessed various policies from multiple nations shape the world we live in today. He is enrolled at SPIA to better understand the nuances of international politics.

Commander Bobby R. Jones, is from Fayetteville, Georgia and graduated from The Westminster Schools of Atlanta. After accepting an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, he lettered in Football and Track and was designated a Surface Warfare Officer upon commissioning with the Class of 2001. He received his Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College. Commander Jones served in a variety of assignments at sea on various ship classes. He participated in Operations Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle, Inherent Resolve and the recovery of 10 detained American Sailors near Farsi Island. Ashore, Commander Jones past assignments include Annapolis, the United Nations Mission in Liberia, the Missile Defense Agency, and Military Sealift Command. He assumed duties as Commanding Officer, Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron FOUR (MSRON-4) in May 2020. While in command, he deployed and also assumed duties as Commander, Task Group 56.7, where he led various missions in the Fifth Fleet Area of Responsibility (Middle East), to include force protection of American assets and infrastructure, assisting in the Afghanistan Evacuation Mission and strategic cooperative engagements with key American allies.

Honors, Awards, and Achievements

CDR Jones is the recipient of various awards and citations to include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Commendation Medal and multiple Battle “E” Awards. He was the 2021 Navy recipient of the Blacks in Government Military Meritorious Service Award. He is also a proud member Leadership Georgia’s Class of 2023.
