New Opportunities
- Internships with the Carter Center – Our paid internship program offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in areas including international affairs, public health, communications, information technology, finance, educational programs, human rights, conflict resolution, development, and many others across The Carter Center.
- Athens Area Community Foundation Fellowship – Gain valuable experience in philanthropy, grant-writing, fundraising, and community engagement here in Athens, Georgia.
Applied History Certificate Internships
Undergraduates must apply here for the Applied History Certificate Program’s internships.
For the Applied History internship, HIST/POLS/INTL 5800, undergraduates can find an internship on their own or intern at one of the SPIA-sponsored internships listed above. Undergraduates can also intern at one of the two organizations below, which are especially eager to welcome Applied History students. - Southern Alliance of Public Health Leadership (SAPHL) – Public Health Legislative Intern – Atlanta-based nonprofit that studies the history of public health efforts in the State of Georgia with the goal of improving public health at the state level.
- Birds Georgia Centennial Intern – Atlanta-based 100-year-old nonprofit that advocates for bird habitat conservation; internship involves researching and compiling history of the organization for help with legislative efforts.

- 2027 Fralick-Bozeman Legislative Internship – State-level lobbying internship for the 2027 legislative session in the State of Georgia.
- AP Vote Entry Operators – Help tabulate votes on election night for the Associated Press.
- Troutman Pepper Locke Strategies Intern in Atlanta– Interns will observe, learn, and support the legislative process through direct experience during Georgia’s 40-day legislative session at the Georgia State Capitol
- Dept. of State Paid Internships – Paid opportunities for students within the US Department of State working on the implementation of US foreign policy.
- Georgia Legislative Internship Program – Intern with state legislators during the spring legislative session, all via the University of Georgia.
- Campaign for Suzanna Karatassos (D) for the Georgia House – Campaign internship working to elect Suzanna Karatassos to the Georgia House of Representatives, for district 120.
- Middle East Institute Policy Intern – Interns will support various research projects of MEI scholars, as well as manage logistics and administrative tasks.

- 2026 Career Opportunities at Penta Group for Undergraduate Seniors at University of Georgia – World’s first comprehensive stakeholder solutions firm headquartered in Washington D.C.
- Spend Your Spring Semester at the Georgia State Capitol– Georgia Legislative Internship Program (GLIP)
- Atlanta-based program for Juniors and Seniors working with Georgia state legislators in the State Capitol Building and nearby offices.

- The Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) – State of Georgia office in charge of funding disbursement and management.
- Meeting Street Insights – Fully-remote internship managing polling and public opinion research with a Republican-oriented nonprofit.
- Department of State Student Internship Program (SIP) – Various internship programs available with the US Department of State in Washington, D.C.
- The Equal Education for Athens Executive Board (volunteer unpaid position) – Fully-remote volunteer position with flexible hours providing free tutoring to local K-12 grade students.
- The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) – Scholarship-funded internship program with various offices and agencies in the Washington, DC area.
