The Foreign Policy Decision Lab (FPDL) is an interdisciplinary research initiative dedicated to the empirical study of foreign policy decision-making processes. With a focus on global security challenges, the lab conducts research on military deterrence, nuclear risk dynamics, and the strategic use of state-sponsored information campaigns in security contexts.
Operating from a cross-national perspective, FPDL seeks to better understand how leaders, institutions, and the public formulate crucial security decisions. By incorporating insights from cognitive psychology and neuroscience into established frameworks of foreign policy analysis, the lab tests theoretical propositions in order to generates actionable insights that bridge the divide between academic scholarship and practical policy applications.
A core component of FPDL’s mission is education. The lab actively supports graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Georgia by fostering independent research projects and engaging students directly in ongoing initiatives. Through mentorship, practical training, and hands-on research experience, students acquire essential skills and knowledge that prepare them for successful careers in academia and policy-making. This instructional commitment ensures the continued development of future generations of foreign policy analysts and decision-makers.
