Dear International Affairs Alumni and Friends,

It has been a year of unprecedented challenges for the world community. My colleagues and I in the Department of International Affairs have reflected on the past year and reaffirmed our commitment to educate International Affairs professionals committed to engaged public service, to craft cutting-edge research designed to help solve world problems, and to compassionately serve both our local and global communities. Now, more than ever, the world needs informed citizens and creative, research-informed policy solutions. We are committed to using our resources to help fulfill UGA’s mission and contribute to a more peaceful and equal world. We hope you will join us in a way that feels right to you.

Now, more than ever, the world needs informed citizens and creative, research-informed policy solutions. Our department might have grown since you were last here. We are now home to one of the top-10 majors on campus, a Master in International Policy program that has grown over 100% in the past five years, and a MA and PhD program that is leading to excellent job placements in both the policy and the academic worlds. We help even more students through our innovative Double Dawg pathways, enabling students to complete both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree during their time at UGA. Our students are creative, caring, and committed to improving their communities. We are proud of the world-class research we have produced and excited about the impactful work of our Center of International Trade and Security, Center for the Study of Global Issues (GLOBIS), and our Diversity and Inclusion Working Group. We are also working on establishing a Human Rights minor thanks to the expertise and passion of several faculty members, myself included.

All of these endeavors would not be possible with your support. Our International Affairs Department Fund provides us with flexibility to support students and faculty in a variety of ways. Your gifts will help our students pursue their academic goals in ways that also help our global society. The impact of your gift can be life-changing for a student interested in studying abroad, participating in our award-winning Model UN program, or pursuing their research passions.

We are committed to innovative teaching and hands-on experiences and welcome your ideas about how we can better prepare our students for future career success. I would love to hear about your experiences at UGA and in your current career path. Please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. We are grateful for your continued interest and support of the Department and its students.

Sincerely,
Amanda Murdie
