Why You Should Apply to be a SPIA Ambassador

by Fernanda Flores

Hello! My name is Fernanda and I am a third-year International Affairs major. Today, I want to write about the SPIA Ambassador program and the opportunities I have had through this organization. This school year (2021-2022) was my first year as a SPIA Ambassador. I applied in February of last year, interviewed, and got the good news that I would be joining the SPIA Ambassador team for the upcoming year.

Also, since becoming an ambassador, my Dawg spirit has multiplied because I have got to meet lots of UGA alumni and see all the amazing things they have gone to do! My favorite event this school year was our Homecoming Committee tabling at the Tate Center. As SPIA Ambassadors, we got to talk to a bunch of students and inform them of all the opportunities available as a SPIA student. It was very fun because we did giveaways and got to meet new people. Another awesome event I recently attended was the Bulldog 100 Honoree Lunch Panel where we got to hear about two UGA alumni and their experiences and careers.

I would 100% recommend SPIA students apply to be an Ambassador. First of all, my fellow SPIA Ambassadors are motivated and kind people. These connections are something that I will carry with me beyond graduation. Secondly, Mrs. Bayne really cares about this program and will help you to the best of her ability. Through this program, I found passionate people that are inspired to create change in the world.  The applications are now open and I invite you to apply!
