On Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) hosted the tenth annual Georgia Legislative Outlook (GLO). GLO, an annual event hosted by the SPIA Alumni Board of Directors, provides a platform for Georgia legislators to discuss the current legislative session while raising support for the Georgia Legislative Outlook Fund. Funds raised by the event support the initiatives of the Alumni Board, which include undergraduate study abroad scholarships, support for students in the Master of Public Administration program and additional funding priorities identified annually by the dean.

Georgia Speaker of the House of Representatives David Ralston was the featured speaker and Richard B. Russell Professor Charles Bullock III provided thought-provoking questions in the School’s second “hybrid” (both virtual and limited in-person attendance) version of the event. Issues discussed included a mental health bill, the secession of Buckhead into a city, the recent redistricting in Georgia, and more.

Gold Sponsor, Troutman Pepper, hosted the event in their expansive meeting space, allowing sponsors of all levels to attend in person. The event raised over $30,000 and had over 50 participants tuned-in online. In-person attendees included SPIA Student Ambassadors who helped with registration and got the opportunity to meet organization representatives and hear the fascinating discussion.

This event was made possible by our generous sponsors: Platinum Sponsors Delta and Norfolk Southern; Gold Sponsors Verizon, McGuireWoods, Troutman PepperMetro Atlanta Chamber, Georgia Power, and Advantage Capital; Silver Sponsors the Council for Quality Growth, ACEC Georgia, Pruitt Health, and WellStar.
