Public Administration and Policy is supporting Athens Area Homeless Shelter for the month of October. Athens Area Homeless Shelter (AAHS) is a nonprofit organization that provides collaborative, comprehensive services to homeless individuals and families working toward sustainable independence. Starting as a ten-cot facility in 1986, AAHS has continued to expand in size and what they offer the community. Now, they not only serve homeless individuals in two dorm areas of their facility, they also house families in need. AAHS, in collaboration with Live Forward (Formally AIDS Athens), Little Angels, Athens Nurses Clinic and Advantage Behavioral Health Systems, is a part of the ARCH initiative. Athens Resource Center for Hope (ARCH) is a nonprofit organization created for the purpose of identifying gaps in the current array of homeless services for Athens-Clarke County and developing and implementing programming to fill these gaps.
AAHS has a fantastic way you can help support them this month! Over the next month and into November they are running their Harvest for the Homeless campaign. You can buy tickets to their event on the evening of November 8th at the Athens Cotton Press. You can also purchase raffle tickets for their amazing culinary raffle. You could win the chance to eat out once a week free for a year! There are some pretty amazing Athens restaurants participating, so get your tickets now!
