Wonhyung is an MPA student from South Korea. He worked at the Ministry of Unification in South Korea from 2007 until coming to the United States. During his work at the Ministry of Unification, Wonhyung handled tasks related to South Korea’s North Korea policies and inter-Korean dialogue, and he also had been dispatched to work in the Office of the President. Wonhyung also has experience working with North Koreans at the Inter-Korean Joint Liaison Office in the North Korean city of Kaesong, which unfortunately no longer exists.

Since arriving in the United States in July 2022, Wonhyung has traveled to various places in the country. A road trip to many cities and national parks in the West and Midwest was a very impressive experience for him, and he was pleased to learn new things about the history, geography, and culture of the United States through his travels.

Wonhyung is acquiring various knowledge through the MPA program that will be helpful for his future career as a public servant. He has a special focus on researching U.S. refugee policies and the lives of North Koreans who have settled in the United States.
