My love letter to SPIA as a senior

Dear SPIA,

As I look back at the past two years and my time in this school, all I can say is I have been given
everything and more. When I committed to UGA, I had a rough idea of what I wanted my educational career to look like
and what I wanted my future to bring. Nearly two years later, I can confidently say I did not know what I needed until coming here.

Being a SPIA student means access to classes and joining organizations that focus on such drastic yet interesting areas. Lectures ranging from peace studies to international humanitarian law, every single class has been different yet so compelling. Outside of
classes, there is an organization for everyone, and no matter what, at SPIA, you will find people who make your time in Athens a million times better. This access to a multitude of specialties within IA has proven worthwhile as I now have a clearer understanding of the field I wish to pursue further, and I have found the people I will remain in contact with throughout life.

SPIA has shown me what it means to be taught by faculty who truly care and are passionate about what they teach; they will be your guide through every loss and win. I had the opportunity to take multiple classes with Dr. Little, and I can confidently say that I have never felt more empowered by a professor who goes above and beyond for her students. Every single professor at SPIA does more than
simply teach; they quickly become our champions and mentors.

Beyond academics, this school has provided me with the opportunity to collaborate with my peers on a
personal level, engage in conversations with respected members of the community, and gain access to
diverse career opportunities. I am incredibly proud to be a part of this college, and it is an honor to
represent SPIA as an ambassador.

Thank you to the UGA School of Public and International Affairs for guiding me through my time
here in Athens, for preparing me to tackle the real world, and for continuously showing me I have so
much potential left. I am forever grateful for this school; it is always a great day to be a SPIA Dawg!

Love,
Kanika Patel
