On 12 March, 2018, J. Warren Stembridge, formerly of Macon and Cordele, GA, received the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal at CIA Headquarters in Langley, VA. This honor is awarded by the Central Intelligence Agency for an individual’s cumulative record of service reflecting a pattern of increasing levels of responsibility or increasingly strategic impact and with distinctly exceptional achievements that constitute a major contribution to the mission of the Agency. Mr. Stembridge retired from the CIA after over 31 years of Service in December 2016. He served in the Washington, D.C. area as well as the domestic United States and overseas in positions of increasing scope and responsibility during his career, entering the Senior Intelligence Service in 2005. He completed several overseas tours supporting mission operations as well as unaccompanied tours in war zones and other areas of conflict in expeditionary settings. Mr. Stembridge served in various leadership positions during his time in the Senior Service, with his last position serving as the Deputy Director of the Office of Congressional Affairs. He is currently employed as the Executive Vice President of Intelligence within the National Security Solutions unit of Pacific Architects and Engineers (PAE), and works directly with industry and US Government Agencies within the Intelligence Community.
Mr. Stembridge was born in Cordele, GA and moved to Macon in 1973 when he was ten years old. He attended Central High School, and then attended the University of Georgia, graduating in 1985, before beginning his Agency career in June 1985. Mr. Stembridge’s parents, W. Asbury Stembridge, Sr. and Charlotte W. Stembridge, reside in Macon, along with his brother, W. Asbury Stembridge, Jr. and his wife, Helen G. Stembridge. Mr. Stembridge’s Uncle, Sidney D. Stembridge, also had a distinguished career at CIA. Mr. Stembridge has been married to Laurel C. Stembridge since 1990 and they have three children, Ben, Julia, and Lindsay. He and his family reside in Ashburn, VA.
