Public Administration and Policy (PADP) is pleased to be supporting University of Georgia (UGA) Student Government Association (SGA) Professional Clothing Closet for the month of March. This new student-run organization operates right on the UGA campus, in Milledge Hall. The SGA Professional Clothing Closet, which had its ribbon cutting ceremony in November of last year, provides professional attire at no cost to students who don’t have what they need for professional meetings such as career fairs, networking, interviews, and more.

After researching the need for professional attire on campus, they found that 75% of those surveyed showed need of access to professional clothing, across all majors. SGA tries to fill this need with the Professional Clothing Closet. They give UGA students access to one fee, professional outfit per academic year.

This student organized and managed nonprofit has partnered with the UGA Career Center, Alumni Association, and Division of Academic Enhancement. The clothes have been donated by alumni, community partners, and other donors. The SGA Professional Clothing Closet’s success relies on the ongoing support of donations. So, PADP will be accepting donations of professional clothing throughout the month of March. You can drop off your donations in our office (Baldwin Hall 204).

SGA Professional Clothing Closet most needs Dress shirts and blouses in neutral colors, jackets and blazers, belts, skirts, pants (and matching suits), ties, and accessories. Please refer to the graphic for more specific details of their needs.

If you do not have extra professional clothes laying around that you can donate, you may consider a monetary donation directly to SGA Professional Clothing Closet. It is such a good cause, making sure our students are prepared, confident, and successful in their professional meetings as they move forward in the professional world. So, drop off some cloths or donate money to help ensure that every UGA student has access to the professional resources needed to achieve their goals.
