January 2022 Public Administration and Policy MPA Student of the Month: Patina Brown

Congratulations to Patina Brown for being selected as Public Administration and Policy’s MPA January Student of the Month!

Patina Brown is a part-time MPA student who works full time as the Deputy Finance Director for a Metro Atlanta municipality. She is responsible for utility analysis, tax, business license revenue, and the city’s $365+ million annual budget. Patina has worked in the public sector for eight years after transitioning from the private sector.
Patina previously served as the Treasurer and Auditor for the Georgia Association of Public Pension Trustees (GAPPT) and remains active in the organization. She is a Certified Retirement Plan Fiduciary (CRPF) trustee and the Vice Chair of her municipality’s pension board that proudly manages employee funds totaling over $130 million in assets.
In her utility analysis role, Patina serves as a monthly participant in Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG) Power’s board meetings. MEAG is a cooperative of 49 Georgia municipalities with over $11 billion in electrical assets combined, providing affordable power to residents throughout the state.

Patina is a mother and wife. She is engaged in community events and consistently volunteers with teenagers and teaches courses in personal financial management for youth and adults. She shares her love of cooking with teenagers through free cooking and etiquette courses. Patina spends her spare time with her family, gardening, and traveling. It is her goal to visit 6 of the 7 continents. She also enjoys sports and has coached multiple youth basketball teams.

Patina is a wonderful student and professional that is working on making her community and the world a better place. We look forward to watching her as she completes the MPA program and continues her work and follows her interests.
