Hi everyone! My name is Kennedy Baker, and I am a third-year Political science student with a minor in Law, Jurisprudence, and the State and a minor in Law, Ethics, and Philosophy on the Pre-law track. I hope this post can help navigate studying during exams!
- Create a study plan: Start planning in advance and schedule what you’ll study and when.
- Take practice tests: If practice tests and review questions are available, get used to the test format and learn the material. Consider taking practice tests under timed conditions.
- Use flashcards: Focus on one concept at a time, such as vocabulary words or specific facts.
- Clear distractions: Silence your phone and loud background noises such as the TV or radio. Make a pact to avoid checking social media until the end of your studying session.
- Take breaks: Studying for long periods without breaks can make it harder to concentrate and retain information.
- Start early: Give yourself enough time to go over the material and understand it.
- Join a study group: Study group members can help you understand the content and prepare for the test.
- Study in different locations: Different locations can improve your focus and retention.
- Organize your space: Create a good study environment.
- Eat brain food: Snack on foods that are good for your brain.
- Drink water: Drink plenty of water.
- Get a good night’s sleep: Getting a good night’s sleep can help decrease stress during test day and while studying for your exams.
- Arrive early: Arriving early at a test location can help decrease stress. It also allows you to get into a positive state of mind before the test starts.
- Plan your exam day: Plan what you’ll do on the day of the exam.
- Reward yourself: Studying and preparing for finals can be mentally and emotionally exhausting, so make sure to reward yourself after your exam for all of your hard work and studying!
