Runan is a Ph.D. student whose work focuses on comparative politics. She has a keen interest in exploring the evolving role of digital media in shaping political attitudes and behaviors, particularly in multicultural and developing regions.

Runan Zhang grew up in Bao Shan, a border city in China’s Yunnan province, where her observations of the interactions between various ethnic groups sparked her interest in political science. After earning a bachelor’s degree from the South China Agricultural University, Runan received her master’s degree in International Relations from the Beijing Foreign Studies University, where she explored the impact of the media on political attitudes and foreign policy. Two of her papers examining the Internet’s influence on political trust in Indonesia and the evolution of the ideology in Indonesian mainstream media towards China has been accepted for publication and has been included in edited collections. Through her research, Runan also completed projects and conducted seminars in areas such as energy policy, international cooperation, public opinion, public policy, E-governance and rural governance in China.
