Master of Public Administration (MPA)

Jason Young is the director of horticulture and grounds at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, a faculty member in the unit of Public Service and Outreach at the University of Georgia. He directs the staff of 12 full time and 20 part time in caring for the 290 acres of natural lands and 30 acres of cultivated gardens at the State Botanical Garden. He also works with local communities to install native plant gardens throughout the state. Before coming to UGA, he worked as the manager and curator of historic gardens at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s historic home in Charlottesville, Va. Jason is a certified wildland burn manager, wildland firefighter and ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) certified arborist. He holds a master’s in horticulture from Colorado State University and two bachelor’s degrees, in biology and art. Working towards his MPA Jason hopes to move into executive leadership in the public gardening world.
