MEET THE PANELISTS

Chris Brown (AB ’01)

Financial Policy Director, PolicyLink

Christopher M. Brown, Financial Policy Director at PolicyLink,leads policy efforts pertaining to banking, financial inclusion, and political activation efforts at PolicyLink. Previously overseeing federal policy and government affairs, he now focuses on local, state, and nationwide strategies that enhance economic mobility, and serves as the Co-Chair of the Tax Alliance for Economic Mobility — a national coalition focused on equitable tax reform. Chris possesses expertise in a range of policy areas and political engagement, and has led policy efforts at the state, federal, and international levels since his time on Capitol Hill and in the private sector. He focuses on strategic partnership opportunities between the private, public, and non-profit sectors that advance better outcomes for all, and draws on previous experience in Congress where he served as Counsel to the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor, and as Legislative Director on the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Just prior to joining PolicyLink, Chris represented a U.S. development firm in Central America, where he directed foreign expansion efforts and government relations. Chris holds a B.A. from the University of Georgia, and a J.D. from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, IL. He now lives in San Francisco, but can also be found roaming the corridors of Washington, DC.

 

Jarrod Jenkins (JD ’10, MPA ’10)

Product Policy Associate Manager, Facebook

Jarrod Jenkins is a 2010 JD and MPA graduate from the University of Georgia. Upon graduation, Jarrod clerked for two years with the Honorable Marc. T. Treadwell on the Middle District of Georgia. From 2012-2014, he worked as a litigation associate with Krevolin & Horst in Atlanta. Since 2015, he’s been doing policy work with Bay Area tech companies including Airbnb and Facebook, where he has served as Product Policy Associate Manager since July 2017. He and his wife Kimberly reside in San Jose, where he serves as a board member on the San Jose Downtown Association.

 

Ed Kilgore (JD ’79)

Political Columnist, New York Magazine

Ed Kilgore is a 1979 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law. He served as a federal-state relations aide and speechwriter for Governors George Busbee, Joe Frank Harris and Zell Miller, and was Communications Director for U.S. Senator Sam Nunn, and Vice President for Policy at the Democratic Leadership Council. He was later Special Correspondent for The New Republic, a writer/editor for Washington Monthly, and author of Election 2014: Why the Republicans Swept the Midterms. He and his wife Dawn Wilson (University of Georgia A.B., J.D.) live in Monterey, California.

 

Laura Covington (ABJ ’81, JD ’91)

Product Policy Director, Facebook

Laura Covington has over two decades’ experience as a trusted leader and expert on cutting-edge legal, public policy, legislative and regulatory issues facing technology and media companies globally. She has built brands, built teams, and built policy. Laura was the first intellectual property lawyer at Yahoo; her legal and policy expertise spans all of IP, with particular emphasis on trademark, copyright, and patent litigation and reform. In addition, she has extensive experience developing strategy and global outreach campaigns, and engaging with a wide array of stakeholders, in connection with not only IP, but also online content regulation, intermediary liability, advertising, ICANN, internet governance, and international trade. Laura has also managed complex privacy, data protection and cybersecurity issues, particularly in Europe. In her current role as Product Policy Director at Facebook, she leads a team responsible for ads and commerce, search, video and all new products.
