In the Brazilian Amazon and Cerrado, legal requirements for environmental protection are being manipulated to legitimate agribusiness expansion and justify the forced displacement of indigenous and peasant communities. Drawing on fieldwork among farmers, commodity traders, regulators, activists, and investors, Dr. Oliveira explores the implications of these ‘green’ land grabs for global agricultural production, human rights, and ecological transformation.
