Overview

The Political Science Minor in the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) offers students a comprehensive understanding of political systems, governmental structures, and political behavior. This program is designed to complement various major fields of study, equipping students with analytical tools to critically assess political phenomena and public policies. The minor consists of a total of 15 hours divided into two fields from which one takes at least 6 hours each – Political Theory & Research Methods and American Studies.

Departmental Requirements

The Political Science Minor requires the completion of 15 credit hours, structured as follows:

  • Political Theory and Research Methods (6 hours): Two courses focusing on political philosophy, formal political theory, or research methodology.
  • American Studies (6 hours): Two courses covering American politics and government, including law and courts.
  • Elective Course (3 hours): One additional course selected from POLS courses at the 2000 level or higher, or INTL or PADP courses at the 3000 level or higher.

Note: At least nine of the 15 credit hours must be completed in residence at the University of Georgia.
