The annual George S. Parthemos Lecture took place on October 15, 2014 in the Richard B. Russell Special Collections Libraries. Dr. David Mayhew, the Sterling Professor of Political Science at Yale University, is one of the world’s leading authorities on Congress and American party politics. His lecture, titled “What Does a President’s Fourth Congress Look Like?”, took a historical viewpoint in order to discuss President Obama’s upcoming Congress. The Parthemos Lecture Fund was established to honor the contributions of George S. Parthemos to the University and to the State of Georgia. In particular, the fund seeks to commemorate his outstanding qualities as a teacher. Each year, the fund allows one of the world’s leading political scientists to visit the University of Georgia not only to deliver a public lecture but to teach an undergraduate class and meet informally with students and faculty. This series has allowed our faculty and students to learn from these distinguished scholars.
