Human Connection in Public Safety

Joseph A. Smarro, Chief Executive Officer of SolutionPoint+ LLC and United States Marine Corps Veteran, became one of the original members of the San Antonio Police Department’s Mental Health Unit in 2009, helping the unit become one of the most nationally recognized police programs in the nation. During his eleven years working on the Mental Health Unit, he has dealt with some of the most severe cases of individuals suffering from a mental health crisis, saving countless lives. He is featured in the award-winning HBO documentary, Ernie & Joe: Crisis Cops (2019).
