The Convocation of the School of Public and International Affairs celebrates our candidates for graduation, our alumni, our faculty and staff, and the entire SPIA Community.

SPIA Convocation for 2019 will be on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Ramsey Center for Student Activities Volleyball Arena.

Candidates for spring graduation receive an e-mail invitation the first week of February with a link to the RSVP form. Tickets are not required.

Our program will include remarks from Dean Auer, a member of the SPIA Young Alumni Board, a representative of the graduating Class of 2019, and a convocation address from a featured speaker prominent in the public life of Georgia and the nation. Recent past speakers include former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Missile Defense Policy M. Elaine Bunn, former U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, U.S. District Court Judge Steve C. Jones, Representative Earl Ehrhart, Speaker of the Georgia House David Ralston, former Minority Leader of the Georgia House Stacey Abrams, and Attorney General of Georgia Christopher M. Carr.

Applications from candidates to speak on behalf of the Class of 2019 will be accepted between February 1 and April 10. Interested candidates may submit a one page application essay to Paul Welch in 103 Candler Hall or via e-mail at [email protected]. The application essay should detail their qualifications and, if selected, what general message they might communicate
