The Undergraduate Certificate in Global Studies is designed to offer a global perspective, to facilitate the ability to communicate in different languages, to help develop an appreciation for other cultures, and to promote informed analyses of global issues.
Altogether, 30 semester hours or the equivalent is required for the certificate, with an overall GPA of 3.0. Courses taken in conjunction with other academic programs such as majors or minors can be used for the Certificate. The program encompasses four areas:
- Global Core (e.g., theories and methods in global studies)
- Foreign Language
- Area/Cultural Studies (e.g., cultures and foreign areas)
- Global Issues (e.g., ecology, peace, development, and demography)
A wide spectrum of courses is available from diverse disciplines for each area. At least half the required credit hours must be generated from courses offered by the University of Georgia.
