Gabriela Okundaye, UT Dallas – March 25th at 12:30pm

Transcending and Intersecting: Premigratory Experiences, Conflict, and Gender

Abstract: How do the premigratory experiences of immigrants (defined as the experiences an immigrant has in their country of origin) affect the political attitudes, behavior, institutions, and societal structures when immigrants arrive at their country of residence? In this talk, I discuss the origins of their literature, what has been observed, what has been explored, and where the research can go from its current state. Additionally, recent research has found that there are distinctions in the socioeconomic status of immigrants that may also affect their understanding as well as behavior once an immigrant migrates to their current country of residence. I will conclude with future research directions, helpful tips for success in Political Science, and a Q&A panel.
