Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science & International Affairs

After graduating from Miami University, I am translating life-long interests in Geography, History, and Politics into a career in academia.

I graduated from both high school and Miami with academic honors and memberships in national honor societies. From Miami, I earned both Magna cum Laude and membership in Phi Beta Kappa. During high school, I earned the right to be called an Eagle Scout.  I have translated my love of geography into two study abroad opportunities, one summer in Italy and a semester in Luxembourg, and the chance to teach English as a second language to Chinese university students.  I interned in Washington D.C. for the House Foreign Affairs Committee during the summer of 2010 as a part of Miami’s well-known Inside Washington Program. As an undergraduate, I learned to play the bagpipes and have continued to practice that skill.

Research Interests

I am interested in China as a country of focus after having spent a year teaching English at Sun Yat-sen University.  My other research interests include conflict management and more realist theories, such as, balance of power and great power strategies.  For conflict management I am interested in trying to prevent conflicts.
