Tommy Valentine

Tommy Valentine (MPA ’15) is a management and strategy consultant with a background in political campaigning, event planning, and retail operations. He is the recipient of the 2013 Harold F. Holtz, Jr., Master of Public Administration Scholarship, the First-Year Liaison for Georgia Students for Public Administration, an Eagle Scout, and the Director of The Athens-Clarke County Mayor’s Call to Service.

Tommy Valentine is a 2015 Master of Public Administration candidate at the University of Georgia’s School of Public Administration and International Affairs.  He is pursuing a Generalist degree, with concentrations in Local Government and Public Management. His background is in management and consultation, with expertise in political campaigning and retail operations.

Since beginning his MPA, Valentine was elected First-Year Liaison by his peers in Georgia Students for Public Administration. He was also the recipient of the Harold F. Holtz, Jr., MPA Scholarship, awarded by the Georgia City-County Management Association.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Valentine is currently serving as the Director of the Mayor’s Call to Service. This initiative, which he co-created with Mayor Nancy Denson, works to promote and strengthen the local service culture of Athens-Clarke County. In his spare time, he volunteers with local organizations such as the Athens Boys and Girls Club and Books for Keeps.

Research Interests

Tommy’s interests focus primarily on organizational theory, local government operations, and economic development. His current independent studies focus on themes of collaboration, negotiation, and the interplay between local government and non-profit entities.
