Master of Public Administration (MPA)

Savannah Tierney graduated with Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2021 with a degree in Public Policy and a second major in Management & Society. While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Savannah conducted independent research on COVID-19’s impact on meal distribution in high-resource school districts in North Carolina. Outside of the classroom, Savannah pursued her dedication to public service by giving back to her community through a variety of campus organizations, including Orange County Special Olympics, Nourish, and School Reading Partners. Through partnership with organizations that focus on food insecurity and childhood wellbeing, Savannah will use this experience to specialize in Public Budgeting and Finance with an emphasis on facilitating equity and inclusion through budget allocations.

More About

Educational Experiences

Throughout my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to conduct independent research with a highly-distinguished faculty member and Head of the Public Policy department, where I was the Principle Investigator on the research. I completed an Honors Thesis on the impact that COVID-19 had during the 2020-2021 school year regarding meal distribution in high-resource school districts in North Carolina. This educational experience shaped my undergraduate career and allowed me to pursue research interests to expand upon my professional goals in Public Administration.

Career Goals

My career goals are to work in public budgeting and finance, whether that be at the federal, state, or local level. Working for a larger non-partisan organization is my current career goal, where I will be able to examine how budgets work at a large scale on the federal level in order to focus my interests at a state or local level later on in my career. In this sector, I want to specifically work with education budgets and access to public goods/services to make the space more equitable and accessible.
