Master of Public Administration (MPA)

Mary Hunt recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a BSES in Environmental Economics and Management, AB in Ecology, and a Minor in Environmental Law. Mary worked during the week at Snelling Dining Commons the entirety of her undergrad career and spent two semesters as a Research Assistant in the Department of Plant Biology. Mary spent a month traveling the contentious Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin meeting various stakeholders and analyzing the specific strategies and problems associated with large scale cooperation and problem-solving. Additionally, she worked with Athens-Clarke County and Butts County Water Treatment to assess the new issue of microplastics and their impacts on human and environmental health as well as potential policies that could help combat this pollution. Mary has a passion for environmental issues and hopes to be a part of potential solutions that come from public service.

Graduated in 2020 from the University of Georgia BSES Environmental Economics and Management | College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences AB Ecology | Odum School of Ecology Minor in Environmental Law

At the University of Georgia, Mary had the ability to study and become passionate about various subjects such as economics, sustainability, climate change, environmental policy, and environmental justice. During her four years in undergrad, Mary studied Conservation Biology in Costa Rica where she had the opportunity to travel throughout the country studying diverse animals, plants, and concepts of sustainability and economic development. Mary was also member of several organizations on campus including a new Ecology Mentorship Program, Ocean Initiative, as well as the Agricultural and Environmental Economics Club.

Career Goals:
Mary hopes to devote her career to helping communities become more sustainable. For most of her life, Mary knew that she wanted to become a steward and protector of the environment. Mary’s goal in life is to help not only the planet but people too. It is easy to become bogged down by the complexities of issues faced by today’s society including climate change, but Mary is excited about the complexities of the potential solutions and wants to be a part of implementing changes in policies and procedures.
