B.A. International Affairs, University of Georgia, 2020
B.A. Political Science, University of Georgia, 2020
I am a first-generation student from St. Simons Island, GA. I began my college career at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, GA in 2016, and later transferred to the University of Georgia in 2018. During the summer of 2018, I traveled to Germany and spent 5 weeks in Berlin studying German and the history of Germany’s Nazi era. I graduated from the University of Georgia in 2020 with a B.A. in Political Science and a B.A. in International Affairs.
Outside of the classroom, I love to cook. My family has owned and run several restaurants throughout my life, so I have been around food more than the average person. When holidays roll around, my entire family gathers in the kitchen to cook or cheer on whoever ended up being the “chef” that year. Food is our form of community.
My personal attachment to food and cooking is what sparked my interest in food security and the politics surrounding food. Something that always brings my family together and brings me so much joy is not a guarantee to everyone… it is hard to fathom. My other research interests were piqued during my undergraduate courses at both Georgia College & State and the University of Georgia.
I have worked for my parents since I was 13, so my resume lacks the internships and opportunities that some of my peers have had. This is something I was always insecure about, however I realized that my skills I developed as a manager at their restaurant proved to be very beneficial in my life as an academic.
