Charlie Carlee is a doctoral student in the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia. His primary area of study is International Affairs with an emphasis in Political Methodology. He focuses his research on the intersection of human rights and political violence. This had led to an interest in numerous areas, such as: political violence, organized dissent, terrorism, human rights, US foreign policy, and US national security.

Charlie is a former United States Marine with both infantry and amphibious assault experience. He holds a BA in History from the University of Southern Mississippi and a MA in Political Science and International Affairs from the University of Georgia.

When Charlie is not spending hours upon hours reading academic journals or researching, he enjoys playing guitar, singing Beatles’ songs to his son Charlie III, and taking family walks with his dog, Lucy.

Research Interests

Charlie Carlee’s research focuses on the intersection of human rights and political violence. This has led to an interest in such topics as political violence, organized dissent, terrorism, human rights, US foreign policy, and US national security. Currently, he is conducting research on how human rights affects the strategic choice between non-violent and violent tactics for dissident movements.
