Public Administration and Policy would like announce we are partnering with Project Safe for the month of September.  Project Safe is a 501c3 nonprofit organization working to end domestic violence through prevention and educational programs, crisis intervention, ongoing supportive services for survivors of domestic violence and their children, and advocacy/ systems change work in our community. Founded in Athens, GA first as a network of safe houses, and later as a confidentially located emergency shelter and hotline, Project Safe has expanded over the years to better meet the needs of those seeking to put the pain and horror of abuse behind them. Today, their services range from short term crisis counseling on the hotline to long term support through our Follow Up and Rapid Re-Housing programs. Although the majority of their clients come from Athens and the surrounding area, they are a routing point for a national hotline and assist women and children from across Georgia and out of state.

Public Administration and policy will be collecting items for Project Safe’s most needed item list and we are scheduled for group volunteering on September 22 and October 20. Please take a moment now to review the list of donation items Project Safe needs the most. You can drop off items in the PADP main office, Baldwin Hall 204, throughout the month of September.

We invite you to sign up for two-hour volunteer time slots on either September 22 or October 20, 4 pm-6 pm. Join us and have some fun while giving back to the Athens community.  We will be working at the Project Safe Thrift Store, located at 995 Hawthorne Ave (Bell’s Shopping Center). The Project Safe Thrift Store is an important component for this nonprofit organization. It serves as a place where Project Safe clients can go and shop for free. Also, 90 cents of every dollar made at the thrift store goes straight to Project Safe’s services.

We are glad to be working with an organization that is working so hard for a good cause. Please join us in supporting them during the month of September and beyond.
