As part of International Education Month, Public Administration and Policy is celebrating some of our outstanding international students. Meet David Kyalo.

Originally from Kenya, David opted to join the prestigious University of Georgia MPA Program in Spring 2019 after working for the Government of Kenya in the Treasury Department for over 5 years. Prior to this, he worked in a multinational tobacco conglomerate before switching to public service due to a burning desire to positively impact the lives of his fellow citizens. Prior to joining the workforce, he did his undergraduate coursework in Accounting at the University of Nairobi in Kenya.

As a Finance Officer with the Government of Kenya, David was honored to be one of the pioneering cadres of young professionals who were involved in the establishment of the Government of Kitui County’s Treasury Department after a new constitution paved the way for the establishment of counties as units of devolved governance. During his time there, he noted several accomplishments which are too many to list here, but broadly, they made a positive impact on the lives of the community.

At the University of Georgia, David was in the 2020/2021 academic year honored to be the recipient of the Orkin Scholarship Award, which is awarded to outstanding students with disabilities.

On graduating in Spring 2021, David intends to seek opportunities that offer him a chance continue his lifelong desire to be part of the change in making the general society better than he found it. He sums his driving force as being “whomsoever much is given, of him much is expected.”
