Roddrick Colvin Talk – “Rainbows and Unicorns: representative bureaucracy, LGBTQ officers, and community policing”

Roddrick Colvin joined the faculty of the School of Public Affairs at San Diego State University in the fall of 2017. He teaches courses in public administration and criminal justice. His research interests include public employment equity, police officers’ shared perceptions, and lesbian and gay civil rights. He is the author of Gay and Lesbian Cops: Diversity and Effective Policing (Lynne Rienner Publishing, 2012). His most recent work examines the organizational effects of LGBTQ police associations on police departments.

The title of the talk is “Rainbows and Unicorns: representative bureaucracy, LGBTQ officers, and community policing.” This talk will highlight some of the factors that have moved police departments to become more LGBTQ-friendly, and how these changes have created new challenges and opportunities for police departments and LGBTQ communities.
