Public Administration and Policy is happy to announce Philippa Hawker as MPA Student of the Month for December!

Philippa is a second year Master of Public Administration student, specializing in local government and financial management. She is currently working as a graduate assistant with the Carl Vinson Institute for Government where she is helping to implement a common registration software across all 8 of the university’s public service outreach units. Philippa also works with the Athens-Clarke County Public Utilities Department where she has helped develop the department’s key reporting outcomes and data management plans. She is the President of the UGA Student Chapter of the International City and County Manager Association and is also a member of the UGA student chapter of the Georgia Government Finance Officers Association and Georgia Students for Public Administration.

Prior to beginning her career as a graduate student, Philippa studied Political Science and French at Southern Virginia University and received her bachelor’s degree in 2016. She is an alumnus of the Young People for the American Way Fellowship Program. Her work after her undergraduate studies included time at the Macon Water Authority where she assisted in launching customer and financial management software, which inspired her to pursue a career in public utilities.

A southern California native, Philippa enjoys travel, photography, graphic design, and writing fiction and poetry. She also enjoys listening to podcasts, spoiling her three “fur babies” (Watson, Zeva, and Dinah), and spending time with her fiancée, Rebekah.

Congratulations Philippa!
