Most Memorable SPIA Class Moment?

Once, as a senior, before class began Dr. Bullock approached me as I was reading in a hallway in Baldwin. He asked what I was reading and who assigned it. I told him the title, it was Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography, and that I was reading it for myself. He said, “Ah, so you’ve figured it out, good.”, I will always take that with me. You don’t need an assignment to deepen your knowledge, and you never know when that which you have pursued on your own will be useful.

My Top Three Career Tips
  1. Knowing what you DON’T want to do is awfully helpful in figuring out what you DO want to do. Don’t wait until your last semester to have these thoughts.
  2. You have a skill set entirely unique to you. Figure out what that is, what that does, and how to begin honing it, then never quit honing it.
  3. As a student at UGA the opportunities to begin your professional network abound. You are associated with a vast alumni network. One with a wide variety of hugely successful people with whom you share a common educational heritage. Not everyone is going to give you a leg up on the pile, or a job, but I guarantee you can always learn something from someone who has been there, and you already have a way to start the conversation, “So, you went to Georgia?”.
