The mission of the Energy Department is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions. The Department of Energy is also concerned with the United States’ policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material. Its responsibilities include the nation’s nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the United States Navy, energy conservation, energy-related research, radioactive waste disposal, and domestic energy production.

  • Favorite Hangout: My favorite Athens hangout was George Dean’s Men’s Store. Over the years, I had the opportunity to get to know George Dean and Wayne Dean very well, I always enjoyed going to see them when I was downtown.
  • Favorite Getaway: My family is from rural Georgia, it was always nice to venture home a few weeks out of the academic year.
