Matthew Kevin Humphries

Master of Public Administration (MPA)

I am a North Carolina native, graduating from Crest High School in Shelby, North Carolina. In high school I obtained my Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America organization, which kick started my passion for serving the community. Upon graduating, I started Pfeiffer University in 2012 to obtain my Bachelors of Science in Accounting. During my first semester I became a Bonner AmeriCorps Scholar where I continued my desire to do community service completing over five hundred hours of volunteerism per academic year. The summer of my freshman year, I realized that my service passion was volunteering with nonprofits that work with individuals with disabilities. After spending three years as a Camp Counselor and Programs Assistant at Victory Junction Camp, I came to understand that everyday my life goal was to know that I was making life more enjoyable for individuals with disabilities.

Research Interests

I am interested in the researching the motivation of individuals to their civic duties that involve volunteerism and philanthropy. What personal value do individuals gain from these type of opportunities, intrinsic or extrinsic value? I am also interested in researching the relationships between nonprofits and their stakeholders, specifically how close the connection is and how it affects both parties.
