Alex Vanden Heuvel

Applied Politics

Alex Vanden Heuvel is on path to graduating in May of 2019 with a triple major in political science, international affairs, and public affairs journalism; he’s also in the Applied Politics certificate program. Throughout his career at UGA, Alex has worked in many areas concerning his interests in politics and journalism. He worked for a year as the main political reporter at The Red & Black, where he covered the 2016 Republican National Convention live from Cleveland, among other things. He has also worked as an anchor for over two years on The Athens Journal, which is WUOG 90.5 FM’s flagship news program. Alex now works as an editor for the Georgia Political Review, where he specializes in local and state politics.

On the political side, Alex served for a year in UGA’s student government as a senator. He spent the last summer as a staffer in Atlanta’s mayoral race, and has also accumulated other campaign experience since then. After graduation, he hopes to work as a legislative staffer on Capitol Hill or under the Gold Dome, as well as learn about campaign management and strategy. His dream goal is to own a successful campaign management and lobbying firm.
