CBRN security workshops in Indonesia

A CITS team headed by Dr. Igor Khripunov visited Indonesia on 7-11 April, 2014 to hold four workshops on nuclear and CBRN security and security culture in cooperation with Indonesia's National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN). The events took place in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and at Gadjah Mada University, and were held in cooperation with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and funded by the U.S. State Department's Partnership for Nuclear Security and the Carnegie Cooperation of New York.

PADP PhD Student of the Year

PhD student, Justin Bullock was recognized by faculty and staff Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Annual GSPA Banquet as PhD Student of the Year. Justin currently serves as the MPA Advisor and is a research assistant for Dr. J. Edward Kellough. His first article appeared in print this year in the International Public Management Journal and he recently had a paper accepted the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory. He has papers under review at Administration & Society and Public Administration Review. Justin is also very active in presenting his work. In the past year he attended academic conferences for the European Group on Public Administration, Southern Political Science Association, Association for Public Policy and Management, and the Midwest Political Science Association. Justin has been completing his dissertation titled "A Theory and Empirical Examination of Bureaucratic Errors" under the direction of Dr. Laurence J. O'Toole. Starting in September 2014, Justin will be an Assistant Professor in the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University.

Award recipients have provided superior research and mentoring opportunities and have collaborated with undergraduate researchers on publications and presentations at professional conferences.

Dr. Greer Receives Innovative Instruction Grant

Congratulations to Dr. Robert Greer, recipient of the Summer Innovative Instruction Grant for his proposal: “Case-Based Active Learning Strategies for Public Budgeting and Finance”. The annual grant funds the improvement of teaching and learning techniques through innovative class redesigns and pedagogical strategies. Dr. Greer proposes creating case studies and in-class activities based in real world public financial issues in order to transition from standard textbook based courses to a more interactive classroom.

At this year's Annual GSPA Banquet, MPA student Amanda Newell was awarded with MPA Student of the Year. Amanda is in her second year of the MPA program specializing in public policy and public budgeting and finance and will graduate this Spring. Amanda is the treasurer for GSPA, was on the Fels Policy Competition team, is a teaching assistant, and mentors athletes. Faculty and staff presented this award to Amanda to recognize her dedication both academically and through her service.

The Annual GSPA Banquet took place on Friday, April 11, 2014. The event was held in the Magnolia Room in the Hilton Garden Inn. The Georgia Students for Public Administration and Policy invited Fenwick Broyard to deliver the keynote speech. He delivered an inspiring speech on public service. Faculty and students were also honored and achievements from the academic year were noted. The award of MPA Student of the Year was presented to second-year, MPA student Amanda Newell. Justin Bullock honored as PhD Student of the Year. These awards were presented on behalf of faculty and staff. Students also chose to honor Dr. Grace Bagwell Adams as Professor of the Year.
